Jetty Geeta Reddy

Dr. Jetty Geeta Reddy, a senior Congress leader, is a member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, where she represents Zahirabad constituency in Sangareddy district. She held different cabinet portfolios in various governments in Andhra Pradesh. She was also leader of the ruling Congress in the AP Legislative Assembly during the tenure of Konijeti Rosaiah.

She studied medicine at Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad and became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London in 1989. She is married to Dr Ramachandra Reddy.

Ms Reddy worked as a gynaecologist. She lived abroad from 1971 to 1982 and worked as a doctor. She then returned to India upon the request of Rajiv Gandhi, the couple returned to India to work for the Congress party.

She contested elections for the AP Assembly in 1989 and was elected from Gajwel in Medak. She represented the constituency in 1999 and 2004. After delimitation, Ms Reddy contested from Zahirabad constituency in 2009. She won from the same constituency again in 2014 in Telangana Assembly.

Ms Reddy was a minister in the cabinets of Marri Chenna Reddy, Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy and Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy and held various portfolios like Tourism, Culture, Social Welfare, Sports, Secondary Education and Protocol, Major Industries commerce and Export promotion, Information and Public relations.

Ms Reddy was also in charge of the Home department in the AP government besides holding the Major Industries portfolio in 2013.

In April 2016, Reddy was appointed as chairman of the Telangana Legislative Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee.
